ART-ATHINA, one of the oldest art fairs in Europe, is organised now for the 21st time. The annual fair has over 35,000 visitors. MUU Gallery has received an invitation to participate in its PLATFORM PROJECT, which in 2016 features 51 artist-run galleries from 15 countries. The total number of galleries participating in the fair is one hundred, and the programme also includes several curated shows, collection exhibitions, organisational presentations, events and talks.

At the fair MUU will present the recently updated Performance Art Bank and its features. Performance artist Helinä Hukkataival will perform daily at MUU's booth and will also participate in the Performance Art Bank's Some Artist Week campaign. Essi Kausalainen's Performance Portfolio will be on display, as well as a short documentary about the creation of her community performance Diamonds and Pearls.

MUU's collection of international video performances, Performance Voyage 6, was selected for the fair's Art Athina Film programme. The artists of the Performance Voyage 6 compilation are Caroline Blais, James Duesing, Roberto Fassone, Rick Fisher & Don Rice, Andrew de Freitas, Stefan Hurtig, Henri Hütt, Linda Lenssen, Michael Mallis, Roberta Orlando, Johanna Reich, Pia Sirén, Niko Skorpio, Willem Wilhelmus & Tomasz Szrama.

Call for action

Cassils, the artist featured on the controversial poster of our "Homosexualit_ies" exhibition, has come up with a press release of his_her own, asking people to download the controversial image, print it out and paste it over sexist advertisment currently on display at the Deutsche Bahn.

Noch immer sind Liebes- und Lebensentwürfe abseits der heterosexuellen Norm in Teilen der Gesellschaft ein Tabu. Und selbst diejenigen, die sich für aufgeklärt halten, sind irritiert von Menschen, die sich dem anderen oder gar keinem Geschlecht zugehörig fühlen. Mit seiner Ausstellung „Homosexualität_en“ möchte das LWL-Museum für Kunst und Kultur in Münster dazu beitragen, die vielfältigen alternativen Sexualitäten und Geschlechteridentitäten der

LGBTIQ-Community (Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans, Inter, Queer) in die Mitte der Gesellschaft zu holen. Die Ausstellungsmacher_innen verzichten dabei auf Belehrungen und zeigen Exponate unterschiedlichster Art:

ein Porzellanservice für den Gewinn der Frauenfußball-EM 1989, Fotos der ersten bundesweiten Demonstrationen homosexueller Menschen in Münster 1972 oder auf Video gebannte Lebenserinnerungen queerer Männer und Frauen.

Die Sonderschau zeigt 150 Jahre Geschichte, Politik und Kultur homosexueller Frauen und Männer in Deutschland.
Sie legt dar, wie gleichgeschlechtliche Sexualität und nonkonforme Geschlechtsidentitäten von der Gesetzgebung kriminalisiert, von der Medizin pathologisiert und gesellschaftlich ausgegrenzt wurden. So zeigt sie die rechtliche Entwicklung des Paragraphen 175 des Deutschen Strafgesetzbuches auf, der homosexuelle Handlungen unter Strafe stellte, von seinem Inkrafttreten im Jahr 1872, über die massive Verschärfung während der NS-Zeit und
seine Beibehaltung bis zur endgültigen Abschaffung 1994.

Neben den gesellschaftlichen Repressionen widmet sich die Ausstellung den Emanzipationsbewegungen homo-,
trans*- und intersexueller Menschen, die insbesondere seit der gesetzlichen Liberalisierung seit den 1960er Jahren an Dynamik gewannen und das gesellschaftliche Verständnis von geschlechtlicher Identität verändert haben. Arbeiten internationaler Künstler_innen u.a. von Monica Bonvicini, Louise Bourgeois, Cassils, Elmgreen & Dragset,
Lotte Laserstein, Lee Lozano, Jeanne Mammen, Zanele Muholi, Julian Rosefeldt und
Andy Warhol kommentieren auf vielfältige Weise die Ausstellungsthemen.

„Homosexualität_en“ lässt mit Dokumenten, Fotos, Videos und Kunstwerken Raum für eigene An- und Einsichten, Interpretationen und Rückschlüsse. Über 800 Exponate geben Einblick in die Geschichte und Gegenwart der Homosexualität_en der vergangenen 150 Jahre.
Die Ausstellung wurde im vergangenen Jahr im Schwulen Museum* und im Deutschen Historischen Museum in Berlin gezeigt und ist ein Gemeinschaftsprojekt mit dem LWL-Museum für Kunst und Kultur.

The videos for this year’s Performance Voyage have been published and the project has started its world tour.
The collection is a series of international video performances produced by Artists’ Association MUU.
The premiere exhibition at the Finnish Institute in Stockholm was festively opened on the 10th of March.

The next screening will be held on the 'AIM Wrocław 2016', Barbara, Wrocław, Poland.

The tour compilation of 14 video performances will be shown as a part of the international Index Performance Festival.

Fin dalla sua fondazione nel 2002, Approdo Arcigay Genova ha dedicato buona parte del proprio impegno associativo al realizzare e sostenere eventi e progetti culturali a tematica LGBT (acronimo di Lesbiche, Gay, Bisessuali, Transgender/Transessuali).

Siamo infatti consci dell’importanza della cultura nel testimoniare valori ed esperienze, sollevare riflessioni, facilitare la comprensione, sfatare tabù e falsi miti, rispondere con efficacia a ogni forma di discriminazione e violenza.

Numerose sono le produzioni cinematografiche, letterarie e musicali che in questi anni gli attivisti e le attiviste di Approdo Arcigay Genova hanno sostenuto e portato nella nostra città.

Il teatro ha costituito uno sbocco particolare di questo impegno: sia per il suo ruolo cruciale nella comunicazione civile e nella sensibilizzazione delle collettività, sia perché Genova offre un patrimonio e

una tradizione teatrale unici nel nostro Paese.

Tra il 2013 e il 2014, alcune compagnie teatrali genovesi e italiane hanno contattato Approdo Arcigay Genova per rappresentare i loro spettacoli nella nostra città. Il Teatro della Tosse di Genova ha favorevolmente accolto queste proposte e ne è nata Occhiali d’Oro, la prima rassegna teatrale a tematica omosessuale della nostra città.

Tra gennaio e aprile 2015 lo spazio La Claque del Teatro della Tosse ha accolto cultori e appassionati di teatro, attivisti e attiviste LGBT, spettatori incuriositi dalla novità della rassegna o dagli argomenti trattati.

Il successo dell’evento ha dimostrato l’interesse delle istituzioni culturali cittadine e della collettività all’approfondimento di queste tematiche: successo che assume un valore tanto più simbolico in questo momento storico, in cui da molti fronti si assiste al tentativo di disumanizzare le radici culturali, sociali e politiche del movimento LGBT.

Per queste ragioni, a fronte anche della rinnovata fiducia tra Approdo Arcigay Genova, il Teatro della Tosse e altre realtà cittadine interessate e sensibili ad una proposta culturale a tematica omosessuale,

una semplice replica della rassegna non pareva sufficiente.

Si è scelto quindi di creare nuove sinergie, e di coordinare in una sola, organica iniziativa le diverse forme d’arte performativa che caratterizzano la cultura LGBT.

Così nasce Life Festival, che vede coinvolti – oltre ad Approdo Arcigay Genova e il Teatro della Tosse – la Fondazione per la Cultura Palazzo Ducale, il Teatro dell’Archivolto, il Teatro Altrove, il Museo dell’Accademia Ligustica di Belle Arti, il Comune di Genova e che punta a creare una rete fra tutte le istituzioni culturali cittadine che

vorranno offrire il proprio contributo al progetto.

La semplicità di una relazione nella sua unicità.
Forze e fragilità di due corpi, dal loro equilibrio alla fusione di forme senza riconoscimento.
Una serie fotografca che vuole rappresentare l'amore e nient'altro.

In questa occasione per il Life Festival, vengono presentate soltanto alcune immagini della
serie Every simple day di Roberta Orlando, la cui realizzazione è avvenuta in viaggio verso Genova.

Le persone coinvolte sia di fronte che dietro la camera, lavorano e viaggiano costantemente
in paesi diversi, soprattutto per l'impegno nelle cause LGBTI internazionali.
